RoS signs ex-Kings, Batang Pier import

Nelson Beltran - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Dior Lowhorn is another veteran import once again set to strut his stuff in the PBA as he’s signed up with Rain or Shine, leaving Alaska Milk and Phoenix Petroleum as the only teams still in search of reinforcements for the coming PBA Governors Cup.

After a stint with Barangay Ginebra in 2013 then with GlobalPort in 2014, the wide-bodied Texas Tech product is moving over to the RoS squad that chases a second straight title after a Cinderella championship in the last Commissioner’s Cup.

The Elasto Painters are bringing in Lowhorn obviously with their success with Pierre Henderson-Niles in mind. Niles delivered meager numbers but was a big factor in RoS’s playoff run with his defensive job versus Greg Slaughter in the quarterfinals and opposite June Mar Fajardo in the semifinals.

Ginebra failed to make it past the quarterfinals with Lowhorn versus Petron Blaze in the 2013 Governors Cup.

In the next Governors Cup, Lowhorn was tapped by Globalport as replacement to LeRoy Hickerson. Alas, the Batang Pier failed to win a single game in six outings with Lowhorn.

RoS coach Yeng Guiao, however, is confident Lowhorn will fit in with the E-Painters.

Fresh from a stint in the Argentine league, Lowhorn is arriving in the country on June 25.

Meanwhile, Phoenix and Alaska are still studying their options.

“Hopefully, by next week, our chosen one will fly in. (Asian import) is also part of the options and we will likewise assess depending on the talents and capabilities of our main import,” said Phoenix official Raymond Zorilla.

The import roster in the coming PBA tourney is bereft of new faces. The only new names in the list so far are Mahindra’s James White and Tropang TNT’s Jason Maxiell.

San Miguel Beer and Star are bringing back their champion imports AZ Reid and Marqus Blakely, respectively.

Old imports jumping over to different PBA teams are Paul Harris (Ginebra), Bill Walker (NLEX), Eric Dawson (Blackwater), Dominic Sutton (GlobalPort) and Allen Durham (Meralco).
