Yulo captures 2 gymnastics golds in US

MANILA, Philippines - Filipino Olympics prospect Carlos Edriel Yulo dished out fine form and scooped five medals in the 2016 Pacific Rim Gymnastics Championships over the weekend at the XFINITY Arena in Everett, Washington.

Competing in the juniors division of Men’s Artistic Gymnastics, Yulo delivered golden performances in the floor and vault events and captured the silver medals in the parallel bar and rings competitions en route to the snaring the bronze in the All-Around.

The former Palarong Pambansa standout scored 14.800 to win the floor gold over Japanese Ryosuke Doi (14.150) and Colombian Jose David Toro (13.525) while compatriot John Matthew Vergara finished eighth with 12.300.

Yulo, 15, annexed the mint in the vault, where he carded 14.850 to beat Taiwanese Alan Siao (14.400) and Japanese Kanta Amaro (14.150). He took runner-up honors in the rings with 13.525 behind Amaro (13.950) and in the parallel bar with 13.650 behind Japanese Kosuke Wakasa (13.750). He placed fourth in the horizontal bar, where he scored 12.850.

Overall, Yulo tallied 81.200 to land a podium finish in the All-Around behind a pair of Japanese, gold medalist Ryoto Sato (82.000) and Wakasa (81.550).
