Letran to formally name Jeff Napa as Knights coach

MANILA, Philippines – Letran will officially announce Tuesday the appointment of titled high school mentor Jeff Napa as its new senior basketball coach.

A news briefing has been set at Letran early Monday and although it didn't mention who will take over from Aldin Ayo, who is now with La Salle, all signs and indications point to Napa as the man.

"Yes, he's (Napa) the coach. Letran will officially announce tomorrow (Tuesday)," said a highly-placed source who requested anonymity.

Napa will have his hands full as he will be pressed to match Ayo's accomplishment last season when he steered the underdog Knights to their first NCAA cage championship in a little over a decade ago.

While Ayo had a little experience to show when he took over the coaching job exactly a year to go, Napa was the opposite as he boasts of three UAAP juniors titles in the last five years for the National University Bullpups.

Napa though will have to do it without Mark Cruz and Kevin Racal, key figures to Letran's championship run who are now in the PBA.

It is also not yet known whether or not Napa will give up his coaching job at NU although his contract expires this year.

There is no rule though in both the NCAA and UAAP preventing Napa from handling both responsibilities.
