MANILA, Philippines - National players Michael Kevin Cudiamat, Marky Alcala, Malvinne Poca Alcala and Sarah Joy Barredo cruised to the quarterfinals yesterday in the ninth Prima Pasta Badminton Championship at the Powersmash Badminton Center in Makati.
The top-seeded Cudiamat whipped Mark Joseph Sabarre, 21-19, 21-7, and will face La Salle’s John Kenneth Monterubio, who outclassed Kevin Ian Marcus Fabros, 21-9, 21-10. Alcala, the second seed, outplayed JC Clarito, 21-17, 21-16, and faces Orlan Ticala, who topped Sean Kevin Chan, 22-20, 21-23, 21-18.
Marky’s eldest sister Poca Alcala blanked Jeliene De Vera 21-14, 21-6, and will battle fellow national player Barredo, who routed Rachelle May Padagas Ruis, 21-5, 21-7.
