MANILA, Philippines – Former PBA champion coach Perry Ronquillo, now based in Hercules, California, has hinted a return to basketball.
“I've been thinking and struggling with this for the longest time and I've finally made a decision. This is my make or break year. I will either be successful in making a comeback to basketball, in any capacity or I will finally make peace and say goodbye to it for good,” Ronquillo said in his Facebook account.
His Facebook post drew tremendous support from friends, players and former teammates at La Salle.
Before migrating to the United States, Ronquillo held the rein at Formula Shell, steering the team to two memorable PBA championships in the late 90s.
For that, he won the Baby Dalupan Trophy as Coach of the Year winner for two consecutive years in 1998 and 1999.
He’s best remembered for his conquest of the powerhouse Tanduay team led by Eric Menk and Sonny Alvarado in the 1999 Philippine Cup Finals.
He first made good impression in handling the Burger Machine team in the defunct PBL.
The question is which team he's joining in his return to basketball.
