MANILA, Philippines – Slambang action is expected right on opening day with the world’s celebrated gamefowl breeders and multi-awarded cockfighters entered in the 2016 World Slasher Cup-1 Eight-Cock International Derby slated Jan. 30-Feb. 7 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Entries from Indonesia, Malaysia, Japan, the United States and the Philippines fight for the crucial head start in the initial two-cock eliminations today.

There will be two other two-cock eliminations tomorrow and Monday then the event proceeds with the two-cock semifinals on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

Those with scores of 2, 2.5 and 3 points slug it out in the four-cock pre-finals on Feb. 6. The four-cock grand finale is set Feb. 7 where all undefeated entries with scores of 3.5 or 4 points fight it out for the championship.

Entry fee is pegged at P88,000 with a minimum bet requirement of P33,000.

From an amazing win in the 2015 World Slasher Cup-2, Joey Carpio Sy’s Enzo Altavas Viper is touted as among the bets to watch out for.

Sy’s signature butcher-crosses ruled the last World Slasher Cup with a perfect run of eight victories over a tough field.

Rian JSCT Royal Blood GF of Rikki Reyes, Sierra-1 of Cebu’s Victor Sierra and Lutap-JLA Alibata of Luis Tapia and Alcantara Bros. shared runner-up honors with seven points while the Maribrid entry of Ruben Tan and Butch Yabut scored six wins and a draw.
