MANILA, Philippines – Emilio Aguinaldo College guns for the clincher while Perpetual Help seeks an equalizer as they tangle again today in Game Two of the 91st NCAA men’s volleyball finals at The Arena in San Juan City.
Leaning on Howard Mojica’s exploits, the defending champion Generals turned back the Altas, 25-22, 14-25, 25-14, 25-16, last Tuesday to seize a 1-0 edge in their best-of-three series.
“We’re focused on sweeping the series,” said EAC coach Rodrigo Palmero.
Mojica uncorked a match-best 22 hits in the opener, most of them in the final two sets when the Generals imposed their will and dominated the Altas.
The reigning MVP, tipped to win another in today’s awards rites, is expected to lead EAC’s attack again although the Altas will be trying to at least slow him down to boost their own chances.
“If we can make it a little harder for him (Mojica), we’ll have a chance,” said Perpetual coach Sammy Acaylar.
A deciding Game Three, if necessary, is on Tuesday.
In juniors’ play, Perpetual Help likewise shoots for the crown as it tackles EAC in their own best-of-three series.
The Junior Altas routed the Brigadiers, 25-13, 25-18, 25-16, in the opener to also move closer to retaining their crown.
Meanwhile, St. Benilde hopes to ride on the momentum of its come-from-behind 24-26, 25-21, 25-19, 25-13 win over San Sebastian in Game One in women’s finals reduced to a best-of-three.
