Wesley settles for 3rd draw

MANILA, Philippines - Grandmaster Wesley So settled for a third straight draw, this time against Chinese GM Ding Liren to remain half a point off the pace after four rounds of the Tata Steel Masters Chess 2016 in Wijk aan Zee, the Netherlands Tuesday night.

For the second straight match, So failed to translate a pawn advantage at endgame and settled for a draw in 41 moves of a Slav.

So also went one pawn up against Russian GM Sergey Karjakin in the third round but settled for a draw.

He now has 2.5 points, the same output pooled by reigning women’s world champion GM Hou Yifan of China, Karjakin, Ding and Ukrainian GM Pavel Eljanov.

GM Fabiano Caruana of the US also drew with Giri to stay at helm with three points.

So clashes with Czach GM David Navarra in the fifth round Thursday.
