Garrido overall winner in Macau

MANILA, Philippines - Joaquin Garrido pulled off a tough victory in the grueling 15-lap final of the Formula Cadet class then went on to capture the overall championship in the Macau International Kart Grand Prix at the Kartodomo de Coloane racetrack in Macau recently.

Contrary to earlier report, it was Garrido who dominated the event, making him the real winner and not Iñigo Anton, who was incorrectly published to have won the competition. The top City Kart Racing karter stamped his class and ruled two of the three-stage qualifying heat. He yielded the top spot to Constantin Reisch in the pre-final but recalled his fierce form in the final to clinch the victory in the fourth and last leg of the Asian Karting Open Championship.

The nine-year-old Garrido churned out a total clocking of 15:08.962 over 15 laps with a best time of 59.795 in the ninth as he nipped Anton, who timed 15:09.754.

Seiya Hino placed third in 15:13.080 while Reisch, also of Team City Kart Racing, struggled to finish fourth in 15:13.960 and Taichi Tachikawa came in fifth with a 15:17.052 clocking followed by Yuta Fujiwara (15:20.987), Miguel Angeles (15:21.260), Khazart William Romoff (15:25.661) and Kittinut Luang-A-Run-Chai (15:49.440).

Garrido also bagged the AKOC overall crown, beating Anton and Reisch.

Reisch came out of the qualifying heat in top form, edging Anton and Garrido but Garrido bounced back strong in the next two heats, nipping his City Kart Racing teammate twice with Anton settling for third.

Garrido ended up on top after the elims, with Reisch and Anton taking the next two spots, respectively.
