Eagle spikes Carlos’ entry to Asian Tour
MANILA, Philippines – Jobim Carlos gunned down an eagle on No. 12 to card a second straight one-under 70 and formalize his claim on one of the Asian Tour cards on his very first try.
Carlos mixed three birdies with four bogeys at the front before hitting that eagle on the reachable par-5 No. 12 to close out with a 36-34 card for a joint 14th in the 72-hole AT Qualifying School Final Stage at the Springfield Royal Country Club in Hua Hin, Thailand yesterday.
He pooled a seven-under 277, spiked by a 69 and a 68 in the first two rounds.
It was an impressive for the 23-year-old former University of San Francisco stalwart, who came into the grueling elims oozing with confidence following victories in the National Doubles and the Philippine Amateur Championship the last two weeks.
Michael Bibat recovered mightily from a double-bogey mishap on No. 5 with a stirring six-birdie string from No. 11 but his closing 30 and a four-under 67 failed to lift him into the top 40 plus ties.
He totaled a 282 for joint 42nd and missed the cut by one.
Jay Bayron also failed to regain his Tour card, fumbling with a 75 after an impressive 66 Friday for a 284 aggregate while Orlan Sumcad ended up with a 288 after a 71.
