Tabuena misses cut by 2 despite 68

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines – Miguel Tabuena fought back with a two-under 68 but still failed to make the cut by two in the Sony Open now paced by Brent Snedeker at the Waialae, Honolulu, Hawaii Friday.

Tabuena hit four birdies against two bogeys as he finally settled down with his game after a shaky one-over 71 Thursday he spiked with three closing birdies. But torrid scoring by some of the world’s top players at the par-70 layout hindered the young Filipino ace’s fightback.

The reigning Philippine Open champion wound up with a 139 and missed the cut pegged at 137.

It was Tabuena’s second missed cut stint in the rich event after also failing to make it to the weekend play with rounds of 71-73 in 2012.

Snedeker fired a 65 for a 12-under 128 as he seized a one-stroke lead over Kevin Kisner, who shot a 66 for a 129 while Zach Johnson (66), Luke Donald (65), Zac Blaire (65) and Chez Reavie (63) all pooled 130s.
