MANILA, Philippines - The World Slasher Cup-I braces for another thrilling duel with the world’s leading breeders and cockers fielding in their aces for the blue-ribbon event slated Jan. 30 – Feb. 7 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Nathan Jumper, grandson of the late gamefowl breeder Johnnie Jumper, has joined the crack list of cockers participating in the first edition of this year’s WSC, long considered as the Olympics of Cockfighting.
The WSC 8-cock Invitational Derby, sponsored by Thunderbird Platinum and Thunderbird Bexan XP, will have three separate 2-cock elimination days on Jan. 30, 31 and Feb. 1, when each entry set to fight two roosters each.
The two-cock semifinals will be held on Feb. 2, 3 and 4 wherein all entries may continue to fight, including those with two losses in the elims.
The event will have a one-day break on Feb. 5 with action heating up for the four-cock pre-finals on Feb. 6 featuring those with scores of 2, 2.5 and 3 points. If any three-pointer wins all its assigned matches, it may eventually win the crown if no one in the grand finals will be able to score perfectly.
The four-cock grand finals is set on Feb. 7 featuring all undefeated entries with scores of 3.5 or 4 points.
Entry fee is pegged at P88,000 with a minimum bet requirement P33,000.
Meanwhile, Johnnie Jumper was the man behind the famous Radio Line of fighting cocks in addition to the winning strain of gamebirds that have brought success to many rooster-raisers today. The younger Jumper, on the other hand, shares his grandfather’s passion and continuously breeds the same line in their family’s farm in Ripley, Mississippi. The Jumper gamefowls will be fighting alongside Filipino Celso Evangelista of Longscore Gamefarm in Batangas.
