MANILA, Philippines – Alaska Milk forward Calvin Abueva was meted fines amounting to P41,600 after being singled out as the player responsible for the near free-for-all that marred Game Two of the Smart Bro PBA Philippine Cup Final Four faceoff between the Aces and the Globalport Batang Pier.

PBA commissioner Chito Narvasa dealt nine other individuals separate sanctions for P89,200 in fine after a thorough review of the video of the incident yesterday.

Fines incurred by Globalport player Joseph Yeo and Dorian Peña for separate infractions brought to P91,200 the total fines levied by the league commissioner.

Abueva drew P20,000 for nudging Anthony Semerad as the Globalport forward was being helped up from the floor by teammate Jay Washington. This sparked the fracas resulting in record 13 technical fouls in a single incident.

The Alaska bruiser was also fined P20,000 for confronting PBA vice chairman Eric Arejola, Semerad and Washington.

He incurred an extra fine of P1,600 for a second motion.

Another Alaska player Vic Manuel drew the second heaviest fine of P11,600 for shoving Washington and for a technical foul on second motion.

Fined P5,000 each for leaving the bench during the commotion were Globalport team manager Bonnie Tan, coach Pido Jarencio, Alaska coach Alex Compton and assistant coaches Louie Alas, Jeff Cariaso and Monch Gavieres.

Washington, Semerad and Dondon Hontiveros were given minimal fines for their technical fouls.

Meanwhile, Narvasa clarified misimpression that he attacked Hontiveros with an accusing finger during the commotion.

“They’re all my sons. I was just telling him ‘go back to your bench, go back to your bench,’” said Narvasa.
