MANILA, Philippines – Philippine Maverick Ajla Tomljanovic's Brisbane conquest met an abrupt end early Monday.
The Aussie Tomljanovic got the boot at the hands of Spaniard Carla Suarez Navarro in two easy sets, 1-6, 2-6.
ABC-Austrilia reported that the Croatia-born Tomljanvic will now focus on the Sydney International as she primes up for the Australian Open.
A separate story by the Sydney Morning Herald revealed that she suffered an abdominal tear three days before her tournament-opening match in Brisbane.
The young netter was given a wildcard in the Sydney tiff.
Meanwhile, her tormentor will be taking on Samantha Stosur, who also saw action with the Singapore Slammers in Manila during the IPTL's second season held last December.
Stosur, who once beat World Number 1 Serena Williams, will be risking a third round ticket against the former World No. 13 Navarro.
A Lyme disease survivor, Stosur has regained her lethal swing just recently. She survived a first round scare against Jana Cepelova of Slovakia.
