MANILA, Philippines -- Lyceum of the Philippines University seeks to keep its Final Four hopes alive as it clashes with San Beda in Monday's resumption of the 91st NCAA volleyball tournament at The Arena in San Juan City.
Before the league took the Holiday Season break, the Lady Pirates were at No. 5 with a 4-3 (win-loss) record, just half a game behind the Perpetual Help Lady Altas, currently No. 4 with a 4-2 slate in the women's division rankings.
San Sebastian leads the way with a perfect 6-0 card while defending champion Arellano U and St. Benilde are at Nos. 2 and 3 with a 6-1 and 5-1 mark, respectively.
LPU coach Emil Lontoc said they are all out to make the Final Four for the first time since it joined the league a few years back.
"Hopefully this year we could advance to the Final Four, that's really our goal," said Lontoc in Filipino.
In the men's side, San Beda aims to break out of a two-way tie with Arellano U at No. 4 on 4-3 slates as it clashes with LPU, which is also in the thick of things as it is currently at No. 6 with a 3-4 mark.
Perpetual Help paces everyone with pristine 6-0 record while reigning titlist Emilio Aguinaldo and St. Benilde are at Nos. 2 and 3 with 6-1 and 5-1 marks.
In juniors' play, Perpetual Help is still unbeaten in four outings followed by EAC (4-1), Arellano (4-2) and San Sebastian (2-2).
