MANILA, Philippines – Inspired by the tremendous response of high school teams from Metro Manila to the ongoing fourth Philippine Secondary Schools Basketball Championships (PSSBC) Jumbo Plastic Linoleum Cup, the Board of Governors is planning to invite top high school teams from Visayas and Mindanao in future staging of the event.
“We plan to make the event national in scope because there are teams from the South asking how they can join the event,” said PSSBC vice chairman and Rain or Shine co-team owner Terry Que. “I hope we can talk about this in our next meeting.”
Only teams from the UAAP, NCAA and Fil-Chinese federation are so far taking part in the annual event staged to provide these high school players another venue to showcase their talent and skills.
“Though PSSBC games are shown on AksyonTV on delayed basis, some collegiate coaches are watching games religiously knowing we invited only the best teams in Metro Manila,” said Que.
Though putting up a tournament with invited teams from Visayas and Mindanao would entail a bigger budget, Que is confident he can get the support of the board chaired by Jumbo Plastic Linoleum owner Jimmy dela Cruz.
Aside from Dela Cruz and Que, other governors of the league are Rudy Yu of Dickies Underwear, Dioceldo Sy of Blackwater Sports, Leoncio Chua of MEC Networks, Jimi Lim of Ironcon Builders, Dr. Cecilio Pedro of Hapee Toothpaste and Eduard Tio of Freego.
