Mavericks win close one over Royals in IPTL Dubai opener
The Philippine Mavericks opened their International Premier Tennis League Dubai stint on a positive note early Tuesday, escaping with a 26-24 victory over the UAE Royals.
With the aggregate score tied at 20-20 entering the deciding Men’s Singles clash, debuting star Ivo Karlovic pulled off a 6-4 win over superstar Roger Federer to seal the win for the Mavericks, who bounced back after struggling in the league’s India leg some days ago.
Retired American tennis legend James Blake started out for the Mavericks, losing a close 5-6 decision to Goran Ivanisevic.
