La Salle, Ateneo jungolfers triumph

MANILA, Philippines - La Salle and Ateneo teams completed the cast of qualifiers after topping the Seniors and Girls 1 divisions at the conclusion recently of the JGFP-ICTSI Inter-School golf tournament in various courses.

La Salle survived the late charge of the fancied Lyceum squad to capture the top plum with the team of Miggy Yee, Inigo Raymundo, AR Ramos, Ton Ton Arevalo and Mike Uy compiling a 442 to preserve their big lead and a 28-point win over Lyceum.

Lyceum got back the services of Rupert Zaragosa and Jelbert Gamolo in the closing rounds but managed just 414 to settle for second with Dan Cruz, JP De Claro and  Luigi Guerrero as their teammates.

DLSU 2 placed third at 365, then came three Ateneo teams in the three-month series that drew hundreds of jungolfers from at least 30 schools.

Ateneo’s Nikki Bruce,  Yeun Jae Baek and Charlene Abalos finished with 266 to beat La Salle’s Kelly Chua, Sandra Nocum, Luli Cuenca in Girls 1.

La Salle Zobel’s Nicole Abelar, Pauline Del Rosario, Mikhaela Fortuna, Bernice Ilas won Girls 2 with 389 while Immaculate Concepcion Academy’s Riane Lee and Justine Teh topped Girls 3 of the Inter-School which is part of the International Container Terminal Services, Inc. Foundation’s year-round sponsorship of jungolf events in support of talent development.

The individual winners of the tourney also supported by Philippine Golf Foundation, Philippine Airlines and Inquirer Golf were Zaragosa in seniors, sisters Nikki and Sam in Girls 1 and 2, respectively, and Burberry Zhang of OB Montessori Las Piñas in Girls 3.

De La Salle Zobel 2 placed second and Assumption third in Girls 2 while another La Salle Zobel team took runner-up honors in Girls 3.
