MANILA, Philippines - Marikina’s Marist School posted victories over De La Salle-Lipa and Tanauan High School to set in motion its three-peat drive in the League of Southern Manila Schools at the Brent International School in Biñan, Laguna last weekend.
Juan Pablo Sison and Japheth Lico scored three goals each as Marist FC’s 16-and-under varsity team, which also included Austin Papa, edged DLS-Lipa, 3-2, in the morning match and then blasted Tanauan HS, 7-1, a few hours later.
Defender Geo Juico also dished out a superb game while Mitchell Avila stepped up to deliver two goals against Tanauan. Other scorers for Marist School were Luis Orlina Macapagal, Jigo Laygo and Paul Palogan.
The twin wins put Marist in joint lead with Don Bosco Canlubang at 10 points.
Marist ruled the U-16 category last year and won again last Jan. 19 but it must hurdle Brent, Don Bosco Canlubang and British School Manila to complete a three-peat.
Meanwhile, coach Gerald Pasinabo Pacquiao has piloted MFC to the two victories as head coach Frank Muescan took a leave to oversee the training of the UFL champions Ceres FC back in Bacolod.
