MANILA, Philippines - Team Standard Insurance’s Monica Torres and LC Langit of Team Red Cross posted a 1-2 finish in the women’s side while Paul Jumamil of Team Alaska TRI Aspire ruled the men’s division of the second Lanao del Norte Triathlon recently.
The event drew 170 triathletes, including the country’s No. 1 Torres and Jonard Saim of Team Unilab, who settled for third behind Jumamil and Kristiane Lim of Team Alaska TRI.
Michael Acas, James Rey Dimco and John Alcala, meanwhile, took the top three places in the overall age group competition of the event which drew triathletes from Metro Manila, Bohol, Cebu, Camiguin, Dipolog, Ozamiz, Cagayan de Oro and Iligan as well as from the host province, represented by athletes from Sultan Naga Dimaporo and Tubod.
“We’re very happy with the huge turnout of athletes. We want this sport to be as popular as our international motocross races here in Lanao del Norte,” said Lanao del Norte Gov. Khalid Dimaporo.
The 1.5km swim in Panguil Bay kicked off the swim-bike-run event with the field tackling the 44km bike ride across the municipalities of Tubod, Baroy and Lala before winding up with the 10km run ending at the world class Mindanao Civic Center (MCC) sports complex.
