Santos, Anasta dominate PPTO Bacolod leg

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines – Palawan rising star Alexie Santos and veteran campaigner Vicente Anasta clobbered their respective finals rivals to capture the women’s and men’s singles titles in the Peugeot Philippines Tennis Open (PPTO) at the Center Court Tennis Club in Bacolod City recently.

The 15-year-old Santos overpowered Rosalie Clelo and came away with a 6-0, 6-0 romp while Anasta dropped just four games to beat John Altiche, 6-3, 6-1, and gain berths in the PPTO National Finals set in February 2016.

Santos later teamed up with her mom Melinda to hold off Anabelle Zaragoza and Margie Escher, 7-5, 6-4, and snare the women’s doubles crown while Janjie Soquino and Amiel Aya-ay blasted Mclean Barraquias and Karl Mark Gayo, 6-2, 6-0, to pocket the men’s doubles plum.

Santos and Anasta took home P20,000 each plus Wilson Juice 100 BLX and transport and lodging for the national finals while the doubles champions received P11,000 each plus transport and lodging in the national finals.

“We continued to be impressed with the skills and talent of Filipino tennis players as the PPTO holds its regional qualifying legs,” said Glen Dasig, Peugeot Philippines president. “We expect more exciting match-ups in the next stops of the PPTO.”

Meanwhile, action resumes Sunday with the Nueva Ecija leg while Cebu will host the next stop on Jan. 9-15.

The event is open to all Filipino players aged 13-and-above. For details, visit the nearest Peugeot dealership or the regional representatives or the official PPTO 2015 website
