Pinoys bag 2 golds in Singapore youth tilt
MANILA, Philippines - Christian Bernardo and Alvin Morado dominated Malaysian Mohamad Jojohanif Saha and Yue Jian Wong to fashion out a 21-12, 21-11 victory and capture the boys’ Under-19 doubles gold in the OUE Singapore Youth International Series at the Singapore Indoor Stadium recently.
Alyssa Yasbel Leonardo and Thea Marie Pomar, on the other hand, foiled Joella Geva De Vera and Alyssa Geverjuan, 21-14, 21-14, in an all-Pinoy finals in their side of the U-19 doubles.
“It was a big achievement for our juniors to capture two gold medals and one silver,” said PBA-Smash Pilipinas Indonesian coach Paulus Firman.
PBA sec-gen Rep. Albee Benitez and the rest of officers, including PBA president Jejomar Binay and chairman Manny V. Pangilinan, congratulated the players, all members of the PBA Smash Pilipinas pool, for their winning effort.
“They sacrificed a lot of effort and time in training to hone their skills,” said Benitez.
Leonardo and Pomar scored a come-from-behind 17-21, 21-18, 21-18 win over Thais Natchpapha Chatupornkarnchana and Sanicha Chumnibannakarn in the semis while De Vera and Geverjuan crushed Deven Haria Anokhi and Ker Sarah Ko, 21-17, 21-12, in the other semis pairing.
