CEBU, Philippines – Miguel Barreto and Patrick Galvez dominated their rivals in their respective events in swimming to capture the first two gold medals in the 2015 POC-PSC Batang Pinoy National Finals at the Cebu City Sports Complex here yesterday.
Barreto, a multiple medalist in the Luzon leg of the nationwide multi-sports meet for athletes below 15 years old, topped the boys’ 12-under 400m free in four minutes and 46.21 seconds, beating Raphael Santos of Malolos, Bulacan (4:48.90) and Josh Byron Abastillas (5:00.28).
The 15-year-old Galvez, on the other hand, timed 4:23.89 to cop the 13-15 400m free with QC teammate Philip Yu-Santos settling for silver in 4:26.54 and Nicolai Chiong of Iligan City clocking 4:36.87 for the bronze.
Aubrey Sheian Bermejo of Iligan City followed suit by winning two golds in the girls’ 12-under 400m and 100m free while Raven Faith Alcoseba of Cebu also posted a pair of victories in the girls’ 13-15 400m free and 200m back.
Alcoseba timed 4:50.19 to edge Imee Joyce Saavedra of Manila, who clocked 4:50.90, in the 400m free while Bermejo posted a 5:02.76 clocking to beat Kristina Baccay and Allen Joy Santos of Gen. Santos in the 400m free.
