Game Tuesday (December 1)
(JCSGO Gym)
6 p.m. – Kama Motors vs Euro-Med
MANILA, Philippines – Jumbo Plastic formally secured the No.2 spot and a twice-to-beat incentive in the quarterfinal round of the PCBL Founders Cup after easily disposing of Foton, 100-73, Thursday night at the JCSGO Gym.
Kama Motors, on the other hand, kept its twice-to-beat aspirations alive as it outlasted Cagayan Valley, 91-85, in the other game.
With the win, Kama Motors forged a playoff for the No.4 spot that carries a twice-to-beat incentive with Euro-Med. Both teams ended the elimination round with identical 5-5 win-loss record in this tournament supported by Accel, Aquabest, Spalding and Ambucore.
The playoff for the No. 4 spot will be held on Tuesday, December 1, at the JCSGO Gym.
It was a hard-earned win for coach Aries Dimaunahan and his troop as Kama Motors, trailed most of the way before ex-pros Rudy Lingganay and Roider Cabrera stepped up.
Cabrera, Paolo Pontejos and Lingganay combined for their team’s last eight points.
A former swingman of GlobalPort in the PBA, Cabrera’s triple gave Kama Motors an 86-79 lead with 2:21 left. Pontejos added a bucket and Lingganay split his charities in the last 37 seconds that sealed the win for Kama Motors.
Not to be outdone were the Linoleum Giants, who wasted no time flexing their muscles against the Toplander in the other game. They unloaded 11 straight points in a three-minute stretch in the first period to pull away early, 27-8, off a triple by ex-pro James Martinez in the 2:40 mark and they were never seriously threatened from there.
Jeff Viernes led the way for Jumbo Plastic with 27 points while Martinez added 24 as Foton couldn’t find an antidote stopping the Linoleum Giants’ firebrand backcourt.
