Ravena wins 2nd straight UAAP MVP; Caracut named top rookie

MANILA, Philippines -- Kiefer Ravena officially bagged his second straight UAAP MVP serving as another motivation for him to show up in the big stage as he tries to lead the Ateneo Blue Eagles to the Finals against no.2 seed Far Eastern University Tamaraws.

Ravena topped the Statistical Points (SPs), the sole basis for the individual awards in the premier collegiate league, with 69.50 as he developed into a more rounded player this season while leading the Blue Eagles to the Final Four despite numerous off-court issues that hounded the team.

The son of former PBA Rookie of the Year Bong Ravena averaged 18.9 points, 6.1 rebounds, 4.9 assists and 1.2 steals to become just the 10th player in the league history to be named back-to-back MVP. Bobby Ray Parks, Jr. , the former top dog at NU and now playing for the Texas Legends in the NBA D-League was the last player to achieve the feat in 2011-12.

Ravena was able to build enough cushion to fend off the stiff challenge by the UST Growling Tigers' main man Kevin Ferrer, who came in second with 67.34 SPs built around his averages of 17.9 points, 8.2 rebounds, and 1.6 assists while leading his team to the Final Four as the top seed.

Alfred Aroga from the defending champion National University, who will enter the Final Four as the fourth seed, was a far third with 63.29 SPs, followed by La Salle's Jeron Teng (60.79 SPs), who will miss the Final Four this year. This season's breakout player Ed Daquioag rounded off the top five, which is automatically the league's Mythical Five, with 60.57 SPs.

Andrei Caracut of the ousted Green Archers will console himself with the Rookie of the Year award  as he topped the tightly-fough race with 31.67 SPs barely outpointing UST's sniper Marvin Lee, who finished the elimination round with 31.43 SPs.
