MANILA, Philippines - Acting Makati Mayor Romulo Peña will have his driving skills in full display in the Cannonball 1000, a novel motorsports event featuring cars and motorcycles traversing 1,200 kilometers of scenic routes of Northern Luzon in just 24 hours.
Mayor Peña, a long-time enthusiast of two wheels, will be riding his Triumph motorcycle as he takes on the challenge of trying to finish the route in less than a day in the event kicking off at the Oxford Hotel and Casino in Clark, Pampanga on Jan. 8.
The Cannonball 1000, which is open to all cars and motorcycles 301 CC and above, is organized by six-time endurance champion Joey Almeda and backed by Joey Guillermo of Flying V; Chua Peng Chai, representing Brunei Riders; Fil Oil; Petron; BMW; KTM; Aprilia; Moto Guzzi; TVS; Peugeot; Jeep; Mahindra and Ropali.
Underbones and scooters pegged at 300cc below will fall under a class of their own, the Cannonball 500, which will be tracing a similar but more compact route of 500kms under a 12-hour time limit.
