MANILA, Philippines -- Former Asian Motocross champion Glenn Aguilar returned with a bang, winning in two major categories in the inaugural staging of the Vermosa Speedfest held recently at the Vermosa Race Track inside the 700-hectare of this newly-developed area in Daang-Hari, Cavite.
Aguilar, a multi-titled rider, stamped his class in the Pro Open and Expert class, cementing his status as the best rider in the country.
He upstaged long-time rival Bornok Mangosong and Jonjon Adlawan.
Aguilar's son, McLean, also showed a lot of promise by ruling the Intermediate class.
"Ang sabi ko nga kung tinalo niya ako maybe I'll retire na," said the elder Aguilar who competed with his son in one of the categories in the evebt presented by Vermosa.
But the inaugural staging of the event also served as a reunion of motocross legends.
Aguilar, who's been involved in organizing this event, was able to convince legendary riders Butch Chase, Jovie Saulog and Jolet Jao among others to compete in the event.
The veterans clas was ruled by Jing Leongson with Jao ending up third.
"I was so happy dahil akala ko wala halos sumuporta. I don't see any more riders. I'm so happy ito yung sinukli nila sa akin. Dumayo sila as far as Aparri, Tuguegarao, Baguio. Sikat na sikat ang motocross dati during the 80s. Gusto kong maibalik yun," added Aguilar.
Aguilar helped put up the Vermosa Race Track inside this 700-hectare owned by Ayala Land.
The multi-titled champion laid out the track for the riders.
Other winners in the event include Juven Lagrada (Novice Production), Nino Dimaunahan (Beginners Class), Nickson delps Reyes (First Timers/Guests), Edwin Tabangay (Executive A Class), Jay Lacnit (Executive B), Janelle Saulog (Ladies Class), Ompong Gabriel (Mini Class), Samuel Wayet (65cc Kids), David Maglapo (50cc Kids), Joolee Mendoza (Open Enduro), Randy Dayao (Local Enduro), Kevin Marquez (Underbone).
