Gao, Cruz head big Northern Luzon regional tourney

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - National pool members Wei Wei Gao, Dan Cruz and Gido Mandanas headline the field in the 2015 Northern Luzon Regional Golf Championship which gets going Thursday at the Luisita Golf and Country Club in Tarlac.

Gao, coming off a stint in the Nomura Cup in Abu Dhabi, is tipped as the player to beat in the elite Amateur Open division with the challenge to come from the long-hitting Cruz and smooth swinging Mandanas.

Rupert Zaragosa, the country’s leading player in the ranks, remains a doubtful starter in the National Golf Association of the Philippines-conducted tournament held as part of the PLDT Group National Amateur Golf Tour and sponsored by the MVP Sports Foundation.

Junior standouts Ira Alido and Gab Manotoc plus golfers from the north are also seeing action in the event which also features hostilities in the Mid-Am Open, Seniors Open and Novice (54-holes) and Mid-Am I & II and Seniors I & II (36 holes).

In girls’ play, veteran internationalist Harmie Constantino banners the field that also drew the participation of Kristine Torralba, Ashia Nocum and Korean Hwang Min-jeong.
