Judiciary targets crucial UNTV win

MANILA, Philippines – Defending champion Judiciary tries to close out its first round campaign on a high note as it guns for a second straight win against House of Representatives tomorrow in the fourth UNTV Cup at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig.

The Judiciary Magis rode on the hot shooting of guard Warren Ybañez to end a three-game losing skid with an 89-83 victory over the Ombudsman Graft Busters in Group B action two weeks ago.

The Solons, in contrast, are smarting from a 66-82 blowout loss to the Metro Manila Development Authority Black Wolves last month.

But the Magis need to toughen up to stay in the Final Four race in the tournament organized by UNTV president and CEO Daniel Razon.

Led by former La Salle star Johnedel Cardel, MMDA tries to get back on the winning track in Group B elims when it collides with Ombudsman at 2 p.m. while GSIS tackles Department of Justice at 3:30 p.m. in the lone Group A action.

2003 champion Armed Forces, whose game with HOR last weekend was cancelled along with two other matches due to typhoon “Lando,” remains unbeaten in the 12-team tournament offering P2 million to the champion.
