Over at the Women's side, Czech Republic's Karolina Pliskova rebounded from a second set loss to defeat Romanian Alexandra Dulgheru, 6-4, 5-7, 7-6 (7).

Meanwhile, another IPTL athlete in Gael Monfils opened his Vienna conquest by dispatching his foe in three sets.

The Frenchman, seeded sixth in the tournament, fashioned out a 6-7 (5), 6-3, 6-4 victory over Brazilian Thomaz Belluci.

Monfils will be suiting up for the Indian Aces alongside Spanish superstar Rafael Nadal; Pliskova, on the other hand, will see action with Men's No. 1 Novak Djokovic under the banner of the Singapore Slammers.
