Resuello shines in superbikes series aboard a Ducati
MANILA, Philippines - Raniel Resuello brought Ducati’s championship tradition to the Philippines with a dominant performance at the close of the 2015 Pirelli Superbikes Championship Series at the Clark International Speedway.
It was his first crown as Ducati’s franchise rider and his second since 2012 as he wrapped up the six-leg series with 150 points.
Prior to this race, Resuello was way ahead with a 17-point lead over Marvin Mangulabnan of BMW Racing Team. Instead of pushing another win that could put him at risk of an accident that would spoil his bid, he opted for a pressure-free run and ensured he completed 10 laps of racing where he settled for runner-up finish behind final leg champion Mangulabnan.
Watanabe didn’t suit up for the race but showed up at the track to watch, seen with an armsling due to the injury incurred in the last race. He ended only fourth overall in the Superbikes Expert class with 98 points behind overall runner-up Mangulabnan (147.5) and third placer Anthony Roman of KTM Philippines Team (121).
Promising young ace rider TJ Alberto of Team Ducati clinched both the overall Superbikes Novice crown over Masato Fernando and Joey Storm Rivero, and the Superbikes Intermediate title over Clarke Robertson and Paul Mark Doblada.
His father Toti Alberto emerged the Superbikes Masters champion anew. John Defensor ruled Race 1 of the Ducati Cup 2015 final leg while Jay Carrion stole the limelight in Race 2.
Herbert Lopez showed the way in the Moto IR, while Troy Alberto of Team Ducati Philippines emerged champion in the Moto IR2.
TJ Alberto prevailed anew in Race 1 of the Pirelli Cup Group 1 class to win the HW A title, with Marvin Caspe clinching the HW B crown and Joel Asparis the HW C plum.
The Race 2 winners were Paul Mark Doblada (HW A title), Marvin Caspe ( HW B) and Edwin Manalang (HW C).
In the Pirelli Cup Group 2 Arturo Lavarias claimed the MW B title, Jefferson Smith the SLW 390 crown, Darwin Macaraeg the SLW A class and Geronimo David the SLW B division.
The MTRT Cup, which drew the biggest record field of 65 riders, saw Roman Santos ruling Race 1 and Ralph Kenneth Torres topping Race 2.
The event is sanctioned by the Superbikes Racing Association (SBRA) and sponsored by Pirelli, FTDR and ENEOS with media partners Inside Racing Magazine, Motorsiklo Xklusibo @ DZME 1530, and Motorcycle World.
