Alabang ends Tagaytay reign, cops WGAP diadem

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Alabang re-asserted its might in Class A and watched rival Tagaytay Highlands falter in two other divisions and host Sta. Elena fall short of its rally to snare the 2015 Champion Infinity WGAP (Women’s Golf Association of the Philippines) Circuit overall crown at Sta. Elena Golf Club recently.

Marilyn Reyes fired 40 Stableford points while Eun Sil Jang, Jocelyn Garcia and Rita Horan backed her up with 38, 35 and 33, respectively, as the Alabang ladies pooled a 146 and edged Orchard by two and Camp Aguinaldo by five to notch their fourth victory in the premier class of the annual event presented by Champion Infinity and organized and conducted by WGAP.

The win worth three points gave Alabang a 26-point total after eight legs of the circuit, ending Tagaytay’s three-year reign after the Highlanders settled for 25 points and lost by one with a runner-up finish in Class C and a third place effort in Class B.

Sta. Elena, five points behind after the penultimate leg at Tagaytay, flashed its familiarity with the par-72 layout and topped Classes B and C but could only churn out a 24-point aggregate in one of the fiercest finishes in the circuit’s history.

Forest Hills ended up third in Class C while Camp Aguinaldo placed third in Class A as they pooled 20 and 15 points, respectively, to take the two other slots in the WGAP Cup, which gathers the top five teams after the eight-leg circuit, set next month.

Orchard, led by individual champion Abigail Lapid’s 44 points, placed second to Alabang in Class A in the final leg with a 144 and Aguinaldo took third place with a 141 while Sta. Elena, with Junko Naruse firing 39 points, topped Class B with a 150, nipping Canlubang by one and Tagaytay, led by individual winner Mely Leyeza’s 42 points, by eight.

The Sta. Elena ladies, with Patricia Kohchet-Chua and Gia Suarez’s identical 36 points, copped the Class C crown with a 141, seven points ahead of Tagaytay, whose 134 was led by individual champion Catherine Borja’s 37 points, while Forest Hills ended up third with a 133.
