MANILA, Philippines - Renowned for hosting a multitude of memorable events, Hong Kong now adds the 2015 Hong Kong Cyclothon to this year’s calendar of events. Organized by the Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) with title and charity sponsor Sun Hung Kai Properties (SHKP), over a period of two days this weekend, families visiting Hong Kong have a unique opportunity to explore and ride through the bustling streets of Tsim Sha Tsui on a bicycle.
With the cool autumn weather to boost, both professional and leisure cyclists can literally stop traffic and ride safely through major thoroughfares while appreciating the landmarks including the Hong Kong Cultural Centre, International Commerce Centre – the tallest building in Hong Kong – and Tsing Ma Bridge. A total of eight races are set for the grand two-day event where riders embark on night races through the neon-lit streets of Kowloon.
“When people think of Hong Kong, they associate her with brightly lit and busy sidewalks filled with cars and human traffic. However, this event allows everyone to re-imagine and experience Tsim Sha Tsui, one of Hong Kong’s busiest and famous strips, through a different mode of transportation – cycling,” explains Simon Wong, regional director for Southeast Asia of Hong Kong Tourism Board
Families with children can participate in the Family Fun Ride or visit the carnival at the Hong Kong Cultural Center Piazza situated at the picturesque Tsim Sha Tsui harbor front, where food, games, cycling-themed booths, and live musical performances are prepped to be enjoyed all weekend.
Wong adds, “With the sport of cycling catching on recently in Hong Kong, this journey on two wheels is an experience that shouldn’t be missed by families who are looking to explore Asia’s World City differently.”
