Treat Huey's doubles streak ends, crashes out of Japan Open

Philstar.com
MANILA, Philippines – All good things come to an end.

Unfortunately, that was the case for Philippine Maverick Treat Huey and doubles partner Henri Kontinen in the Rakuten Japan Open on Thursday.

Huey and Kontinen failed to extend their tournament wins after crashing out of the tourney's quarterfinals, 6-2, 6(3)-7, 7-10, at the hands of Marcelo Melo and Raven Klaasen.

The Filipino-Finnish duo had been in action together for the third time. They won it all in Russia during the St. Petersburg Tournament via two sets over second seeds, Julian Knowle and Alexander Peya. Later on, they fought for all the marbles in Malaysian Open in Kuala Lumpur with  Klaasen and Rajeev Ram, where they emerged victorious.

A win could've extended Huey's bid for a sixth title on tour.

Huey will be joining top-tier tennis names in Serena Williams, Milos Raonic, Richard Gasquet and Sabine Lisicki under the Philippine Mavericks banner for the International Premier Tennis League.

The IPTL will be holding its second leg here, for the second straight year. The action will be held at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
