CKSC edges St. Stephen’s, completes FCAAF double

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Chiang Kai Shek College wore down St. Stephen’s High School in overtime, 57-54, to rule the developmental division (boys’ 11-under) and complete a twin kill in the 26th Filipino-Chinese Amateur Athletic Federation (FCAAF) Basketball Championships at the CKSC gym in Manila over the weekend.

While it cruised to a 75-57 victory over Hope Christian High School in the premier Division I the other week, CKSC, this time, needed an extra five minutes to turn back St. Stephen’s in the tournament presented by Molten.

The Little Blue Dragons actually trailed by five points in last two minutes of regulation but Miguel Dosayla scored two charities before Calvin Villanueva hit a triple to send the game into overtime.

The Little Blue Dragons then clamped down on SSHS’s top gunners while Johnlen Charles Ang, Dosayla and Villanueva came through with clutch baskets to hack out the win and extend their reign in the tournament to four years.

“It was a difficult win, so hard, but good thing Villanueva and Dosayla came through with huge baskets,” said Joel Yap, who called the shots for CKSC in the absence of Coach Calvin Li.

The title win, anchored by Ang’s 20-point explosion, also avenged CKSC’s 26-point loss to SSHS in the elims. Villanueva and Dosayla added 14 and 13 markers, respectively, while Enzo King paced SSHS with 29 points.

St. Jude Catholic School settled for third while Grace Christian College wound up fourth.
