The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Miriam College, De La Salle Zobel and Chiang Kai Shek College sustained their hot charge and finished their elimination round campaigns unbeaten in the 46th WNCAA tournament over the weekend.

In the senior division, Centro Escolar University and Rizal Technological University posted contrasting victories to move closer to sweeping their respective divisions.

DLSZ won all its four basketball assignments in both midgets and Junior A divisions, beating Poveda, 45-22, and St. Stephen’s High School, 62-11, respectively, at the St. Scholastica gym.

DLSZ will face Junior B No. 4 Assumption in the quarterfinals tomorrow while its defending champion midgets squad is still awaiting its semifinal rival.

CKSC whipped Assumption, 67-21, for a 5-0 sweep of Junior B, and will take on Junior A No. 4 SSHS in the next round of the league backed by Gosen, Mikasa, Molten, Goody, Converse, Colgate, Sonak Trading, MJC Printing Press and media partners The Philippine STAR, Inquirer, Bulletin, Sports5, Magic 89.9 and Chalk Magazine.

Defending junior volleyball champion Miriam, meanwhile, toppled San Beda College Alabang, 25-15, 25-21, 25-20, for a 5-0 sweep of Group A at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum.

In senior basketball, defending champion CEU trounced Assumption, 77-15, to move two wins away from completing a seven-game sweep.

Defending senior volleyball champion RTU, on the other hand, survived SBCA, 26-24, 20-25, 25-18, 25-23, for its sixth straight victory. It will go for a sweep against Miriam this Sunday.

DLSZ was likewise undefeated in junior futsal with five wins, its latest win a 12-0 blanking of SBCA at the UA&P gym.

RTU also held SBCA scoreless, 10-0, in the senior field to show the way with a 4-0-1 win-loss-draw card.
