MANILA, Philippines - The NCAA meted out one-game suspension on Emilio Aguinaldo’s Enjerico Diego and Raymund Pascua and Perpetual Help’s Nick Cabiltes for their on-court misconduct during their game Tuesday.
The three faced more sanctions for their alleged involvement in a brawl that ensued outside the venue.
“The three will receive automatic one-game suspension,” said league management committee chair Melchor Divina of Mapua.
Diego and Cabiltes were ejected following a shoving match with 1:28 left in the game Perpetual Help won, 89-59, Tuesday.
Pascua was also sidelined for putting up a fighting stance.
Stiffer sanctions and fines could also be meted out to players involved in the fracas outside The Arena in San Juan City. The league is currently investigating the incident, which allegedly involved Cabiltes, Pascua and EAC’s Sydney Onwubere.
According to reports, Pascua and Onwubere attacked Cabiltes while the latter was waiting for his teammates at the parking area.
Diego and Pascua will be out when the Generals take on the Lyceum of the Philippines Pirates in a non-bearing game at 2 p.m. today.
Cabiltes, for his part, will serve his one-game ban when Perpetual Help battles Jose Rizal U in a key match tomorrow.
Today’s other duel pits St. Benilde against San Sebastian at 4 p.m., another non-bearing contest.
Interesgtingly, Tuesday’s incidents happened on the exact day of the EAC-Mapua “basket-brawl”, last season when 17 players and three referees were suspended.
