Hong Kong looking to gain experience vs Gilas
CHANGSHA – Six-foot-8 Canadian-Hong Kong Chinese Duncan Overbeck Reid and a slew of sweet-shooting guards and wingmen will be the men to watch in the Gilas Pilipinas-Hong Kong tiff in Day Two of the 2015 FIBA Asia Championship here.
Reid came through with a double-double game with 13 points and the same number of rebounds while Lee Ki, Leung Shiu Wah and Lin Ho Chun combined for eight 3-pointers leading Hong Kong to an 87-50 rout of Kuwait yesterday.
The Hong Kong team got off to a rousing debut in the 2015 Asian joust following strong, fighting stands two years ago.
Curiously, the HK Chinese had their toughest showing in Manila against the host team, just staggering in the second half for a 55-67 loss.
Hong Kong then was helped in its training by Filipino coach Derrick Pumaren and younger brother Dindo.
On Wednesday, Reid and his teammates made good impression in its 37-point rout of the Kuwaitis.
The Hong Kong Chinese, however, expected to draw the brunt of Gilas’ upset loss to Palestine.
“It won’t be payback (for us in our loss to them in Manila). But we’re looking forward to the game. We’re looking forward to gain experience,” said Reid, Hong Kong’s main man with experience of collegiate ball in Canada.
