MANILA, Philippines - La Salle Zobel and Xavier surged ahead in the Aspirants 1 and Aspirants 2 divisions, respectively, at the resumption recently of the ICTSI-JGFP Inter School golf championships in various courses recently.
At the Valley Golf and Country Club in Antipolo, Jolo Magcalayo and Ira Alido each had 52 points while Andre Francis Lanuza added 36 as La Salle Zobel posted 140 for a five-point lead over Ateneo 1 in the Aspirants 1 bracket of the multi-division tourney bankrolled by the ICTSI Foundation and conducted by the Junior Golf Foundation of the Philippines.
Scoring for Ateneo were Riggs Illescas (46), Maio Castaneda (45) and Miggy Roque (44). La Salle Zobel 2 was a far third at 112.
Xavier’s Perry Josef Bucay inched ahead in the individual race of Aspirants 2 with his 53 pushing him a point clear of Magcalayo and Ira Alido. Joaquin Gomez of LS-STC was fourth with his 50.
At Ayala Greenfield in Calamba, Laguna, Xavier remained ahead in Aspirants 2 play of the tourney also backed by Philippine Airlines, Philippine Golf Foundation, Cleantech, Cleanpak and Inquirer Golf.
Sean Young, Jet Ang and Emilio Carpio zoomed ahead by 18 points after again outscoring Ateneo, 76-66.
Young and Ang each had 38 while Carpio made 22 for Xavier which has 140 after two rounds, to lead two Ateneo teams in the standings. Ateneo 1 was at 122 and Ateneo 2 had an 84.
Bloomfield Academy’s Zach Castro set the pace in Aspirants 2 individual play with his round of 43 and 45 for 88 total. Jacob Tiamsic of Casa Real Montessori followed at 76 and Young was third at 74.
The Girls 1, 2 and 3 divisions play their second rounds today at Ayala Greenfield.
