MANILA, Philippines - The Phoenix Premium 98 Amateur Open Series presented by Mechatrends fires off with its second leg Sept. 18, at the Manila Southwoods Golf and Country Club’s Legends course in Carmona, Cavite.
Phoenix Petroleum Philippines vice-president for external affairs Raymond Zorilla is confident of a fruitful hosting at Southwoods. The last stop of the three-leg series will be on Oct. 16 at Beverly Place in Pampanga.
“We are very happy with the outcome of the maiden leg in Cebu. The number of participants exceeded our target. We hope to achieve the same at Southwoods,” Zorilla said.
Chairman Dennis Uy was delighted that the Philippine Sports Commission lauded Phoenix’s new program for golf. Inspired by it, he plans to increase the number of tournaments from three to seven next year.
“To train champions, we need to discover them first,” said Uy, who will hit the ceremonial ball with PSC chair Richie Garcia, Southwoods chair Bob Sobrepeña and Phoenix COO Romy de Guzman.
The Southwoods leg, sponsored by Magsaysay Transport and Logistics Services and BDO-Unibank, will stake five division trophies, including the Open Division, using the Stableford format.
DBP, AUB, Custom Clubmakers, Pagcor, Maybank, ICPI, AU Bank, International Consolidator Phils., Custom Clubmakers, DBP, Pagcor, Alpha Quality Express, Product Providers, Srixon, PSC, Concept Trade and De La Salle Medical Center are backers.
