MANILA, Philippines - Dexter Daquigan of Delta Star Transformer- VW Santa Monica defied the odds and the tough challenge of his fiercest rivals as he captured his third win and a strong solo lead in the Classic Aspirated Cup recently at the Clark International Raceway.
With the crowd roaring, Daquigan zoomed past his rivals, ceded the lead at certain points, gained control again before wrapping up his triumph in the VW Modified class.
Daquigan had the advantage of support put up by Miglia Auto Works, Homies Trading, Maliwan Thai Kitchen, HGD Line Hardwares, DSF-Hispeed and 8A apparel.
The crowd screamed as the pre-final race turned into a battle-royale among Daquigan, Fil Gulfin and Raffy Locson who took turns at the top spot following their intense dicing throughout before Daquigan claimed the checquered flag just 1.217 seconds ahead of Gulfin.
The scenario got hotter in the final race where Gulfin and Locson grabbed 1-2 positions at the first turn.
Gulfin dictated the tempo during the first three laps before it turned into a wild chase with the three again taking turns at the pole.
In the last two laps, Daquigan unleashed a decisive dive on then leading Gulfin at Turn 4, went neck-and-neck going to Acacia turn before Daquigan finally secured the front seat for good and completed his sweep with a wide 2.579-second lead at the end of the seven-lap Final race.
“It was the most exciting race so far, thanks to my veteran mechanic Morris Miranda who did a great job on my car to survive the pressures of the close fight for the win. We’re looking forward to a much tougher encounter in the last two races but we will be ready,” said Daquigan.
