Petron battles NoKor in Asian volley opener
MANILA, Philippines - Petron hopes to come out strong as it battles 4.25 Sports Club of North Korea in the opening of the 2015 Asian Club Women’s Championship today at the Ha Nam Competition Hall in Phu Ly, Vietnam.
Action starts at 5 p.m. with the Blaze Spikers out to show their worth early in the tournament which drew nine of Asia’s best club teams and offers a ticket to the FIVB World Women’s Club Championship next year.
The Blaze Spikers looked fit and ready during their training yesterday, all raring to slug it out with their taller rivals from the northern side of the 38th Parallel.
“We haven’t seen them yet, but we’re ready,” said coach George Pascua, who has tapped Brazilian middle spiker Rupia Inck and setter Erica Adachi to reinforce the team.
Aby Marano, Rachel Anne Daquis and Dindin Manabat banner the Phl squad, hoping to provide the experience and firepower. Other members of the team are Jen Reyes, Acy Masangkay, Maica Morada, Mayette Zapanta, Jozza Cabalsa, Ana Marie del Mundo, Mina Aganon and Fille Cayetano
It will be Marano’s third international duty after representing the country in the 28th SEA Games in Singapore and VTV International Women’s Volleyball Tournament in Bac Liue, Vietnam.
