MANILA, Philippines -- Gilas Pilipinas finished strong in the 37th William Jones Cup by routing Chinese Taipei-B, 96-67, Sunday to bring home the country's first silver medal in this annual touranament.
Gilas broke out from a tight first canto by bridging the first two quarters with one mighty run.
Gary David fired 22 points to lead four Gilas players in double figures as their well-balanced attack helped them establish a 20-point lead, 45-25, after trailing 20-21 near the end of the first period.
David went 10-of-15 from the field including two triples while adding three rebounds, three steals and one assist in easily his best showing in this tournament.
Jayson Castro had 15 points and six assists while Moala Tautuaa and Ranidel de Ocampo added 12 and 10 markers, respectively.
Aldrech Ramos also dished out his best showing finishing with seven points and 10 rebounds.
Gilas made 10 three-pointers, their most in the tournament, and their fluid offense produced 17 assists while their defense yielded 14 steals forcing Chinese Taipei-B to 19 turnovers.
Gilas finished the tournament with a 6-2 win-loss record losing to South Korea and Iran, which copped the gold with a 7-1 record.
