MANILA, Philippines - Del Monte bets Jelbert Gamolo and Noel Langgamin turned in identical one-over 73s to share the first round lead in the 2015 Mindanao regional golf tournament at the Pueblo de Oro Golf and Country Club in Cagayan de Oro yesterday.
Gamolo and Langgamin, members of the Del Monte squad in the PAL Interclub, traded pars and birdies in the early going but fumbled at the back to settle for 73s, netting them a two-stroke lead over Jovencio Lusterio, who hobbled with a 75.
Mel Cubillo, also of Del Monte, limped with a 77 for fourth while teammate Julius Bautista stood at fifth with a 78 in the tournament staged by the National Golf Association of the Philippines and part of the PLDT Group National Amateur Tour’s program for the Mindanao Region.
In ladies play, SEA Games veteran Harmie Constantino charged back with two birdies in the last four holes to fire a four-under 68 and open a big seven-shot lead over local bets Pamela Mariano and Kristine Torralba, Constantino’s teammate from Villamor, who both had 75s.
Florence Bisera from Apo Golf carded a 78 while Philippine Army’s Ginelyn Hepoit made a 79 for solo fifth followed by Rhea Langgamin and Alessandra Nagayo, who both signed for 81s.
Ronald Canlas and Clifford Celdran paced the mid-am and seniors divisions with 80 and 71, respectively.
