MANILA, Philippines - The Mindanao regional golf tournament of the National Golf Association of the Philippines gets going today with a crack field clashing for various division titles at the Pueblo de Oro Golf and Country Club in Cagayan de Oro City.
Local bets Jelbert Gamolo and siblings Ramir and Rainstar Roque head the cast in the three-day event serving as a leg of the PLDT Group National Amateur Golf Tour and supported by the MVP Sports Foundation.
The tournament is also part of NGAP’s grassroots program in the region where it hopes to discover and tap talents who could be trained and developed to become members of the national pool, according to NGAP president Caloy Coscolluela.
“Most of our top pros come from Davao and we hope to source out kids with potential through this event,” said Coscolluela.
Aside from the elite open division, keen competition is also seen in the mid-am and senior categories. To be eligible to join, men and women golfers must have certified handicap indices for the month of August.
Fees are pegged at P3,000 for the men’s elite and P2,500 for the mid-am, seniors and ladies. For details, contact Cathy Nogar at 0925-8024425 or email ngapgolf@rocketmail.com.
