MANILA, Philippines - Gabe Cabrera, Flynn Jackes and Eduardo Coseteng Jr. bested their rivals to rule their respective divisions and lead the country’s sweep of the Asian Karting Open Championships at the Carmona Racetrack in Brgy. Bangkal, Carmona, Cavite recently.
Cabrera, of DC-Seaoil Racing team, saved his best for last to emerge the Shifter KZ champion; Jackes, of KartMaster Drakar Racing squad, captured the Formula 125 Open Junior crown; while Coseteng, of Eagle Cement, rallied in the final race to clinch the Asian Mini-ROK plum in the annual series sanctioned by the world governing Commission Internationale de Karting (CIK-FIA).
Cabrera actually ended up third in the qualifying heats but moved up to second behind Vrei-AR Suba in the pre-final race before surging past the erstwhile leader and keeping the lead en route to victory in the 20-lap race, beating Suba by 9.382 seconds.
Lean Linao finished third while Michael Jordan of Formula-E Racing took the ROK Shifter Veteran title over William Tan of Palawan Racing team.
