MANILA, Philippines - The Visayas leg of the Batang Pinoy kicks off today in Bohol with long jump queen Elma Muros-Posadas, a proud daughter of the province, giving inspirational talk to the kids.
Muros-Posadas, who hails from Magdiwang town, is set to hold the torch during the opening ceremonies set at the Romblon National High School track and field oval.
“I’m happy to be back in my home province to witness the games in the Batang Pinoy. I hope future sports heroes will spring from among the participants here,” said Muros-Posadas in Filipino.
Close to 700 youngsters, led by delegates from Western, Central and Eastern Visayas, are expected to see action in 16 sports scattered across 12 venues in the province known as the “Marble Capital.”
Action in basketball 3-on-3 (boys’ and girls’), chess, karatedo and softball already unwrapped yesterday. The rest of the sports, including medal rich athletics and swimming, go full blast Tuesday.
“Batang Pinoy is a truly breeding ground of future stars. I am expecting new heroes and heroines to surface and play for the country in future international competitions,” said PSC chairman Richie Garcia.
