Go overall champ in Phoenix Am Open

MANILA, Philippines - Lloyd Jefferson Go felt comfortable on home course as he shot a gross two-under-par 70 worth 38 points in Stableford format to win the overall gross title in the inaugural Phoenix Premium 98 Amateur Open at the Cebu Country Club.

Go, a former Philippine Amateur Open winner, shared honors with Bruce Chiongbian, who churned out 44 net points to capture the overall net championship organized by Phoenix Petroleum Philippines Inc. and presented by Mechatrends.

Carl Almario and Nino Bascon made identical 40s in the Open Division (0 to 5 handicap) but Almario was declared the winner because of a better score in the last nine holes. Cebu-based Japanese Gen Nagai placed third with a 37.

Miguel Martirez signed for 43 points to come out on top in Class A (6 to 11 handicap).  He finished three up over Ochiai Masatsagu and Frederick Chiongbian in the event sponsored by Magsaysay Transport & Logistics and BDO-Unibank.

Backers are Pioneer Insurance, Foton, Tata, GPS Tracker, 3636, Landbank, Mercedes-Benz, Unionbank, TOIC, Green Future, Cebu Pacific, China Bank, Golden Sea Customs Brokerage, Steel Asia and Globe Business.

Other winners were David Lu 44 (Class B-12 to 18 handicap), Hermis Tangga-An 43 (Class C-19 to 26), Richard Tiansay (Class D-27 to 36), Marko Sarmiento (nearest to the pin), Airon Sorino (longest drive) and Gen. Hermones Esperon (accurate drive).
