MANILA, Philippines – Jo-Wilfried Tsonga will try shake off the sour taste of being unable to repeat in the Canadian Open as he embarks on another netting quest in Cincinnati early Wednesday morning.
Tsonga, a French standout of the Philippine Mavericks, will take on Spaniard Fernando Verdasco in the Cincinnati Masters at 1 a.m. Wednesday.
The tournament, also called as the Western and Southern Open, is another drum-up leading to this year's final grand slam, the prestigious US Open.
Tsonga, who has long proven his electricity on the tennis court with his post-game antics, will try to extend his mastery of his opening round foe.
The two have faced five times.
Verdasco, ranked No. 43 in the ATP, will try to replicate his lone triumph over the No. 19 Tsonga during the 2009 Australian Open quarterfinals.
The Maverick, on the other hand, will try to recover from his stunning Rogers Cup semis loss that was handed to him by Scottish netter and World No. 2 Andy Murray.
Tsonga was the 2014 men's singles champion before bowing out of contetion.
The Frenchman will also lend his wares to the Mavericks, who are set to visit the country for the International Premier Tennis League in December.
