Daquigan rebounds in third leg of Classic Aspirated race

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Dexter Daquigan put on a superb showing and swept the pre-final and final races to rule the third leg of the first Classic Aspirated Cup at the Batangas Racing Circuit in Batangas recently.

The Delta Star Transformer/VW Santa Monica-backed Daquigan pulled through in a tight duel with Raffy Locson in the early going of the pre-final race then raced away in the third lap en route to victory, 1.620 seconds ahead of Locson.

It was a big bounce-back win for the Miglia Auto Works, Homies Trading, Maliwan Thai Kitchen, HGD Line Hardwares, DSF-Hispeed and 8A apparel-backed racer, who fell short of his bid the last time out with a transmission problem.

Daquigan, through the help of head mechanic Morris Miranda, never gave his rival a chance to rebound in the final race, quickly grabbing the pole before banking on his defensive moves to keep Locson at bay en route to bagging the VW Modified crown.

He completed the seven-lap final race in 16 minutes, 32.801 seconds, 2.512 seconds ahead of Locson with Maman Salada finishing third.

Daquigan’s VW Santa Monica teammate Armand Hipolito also emerged champion in the VW 1600cc class.

“We’re back. The last race was truly a learning experience. Hopefully, the streak continues and at the end of the series we hope to emerge the pioneer overall Classic Aspirated Cup champion,” said Daquigan.

The next race is set Aug. 29-30 at the Clark International Speedway.
